From what I understand one of his stings went terribly wrong and ended with a guy committing suicide.

Yep, that was it. An assistant DA in Texas was caught trying to have sex with what he thought was a 13 year old boy and offed himself, and his family sued NBC.

I don’t know if he was fired exactly, or if NBC just sort of released him from his contract once they couldn’t figure out what else to do with him, but he was off TV for a long time after that.

Supposedly, this has been going on with this particular vendor since 2016. At one point, he claimed he sold a boat in order to cover it, and the check still bounced.

Its for $13,000 to cover a bunch of logo ed stickers, T-shirts, and coffee mugs he had made as recognition items for contributors to his Kickstarter that he set up to fund a new Predator web series. Oh, and I think a bunch of people that contributed to that have also  said that Hansen never sent them their stuff.

So, yeah, it certainly sounds like he’s pretty much broke.
